Worth Noting:
- As we recall, in 2017 Dr Ruto did not take lightly the decision by Maraga led Supreme Court to nullify the presidential election. At the time, Ruto was the deputy President and Uhuru Kenyatta was the president.
- They were seeking re-election for the second and final term. At the time, the diehard supporters of duo hit out at Maraga claiming that he was pushing the agenda of their competitor, ODM leader Raila Odinga.
- Addressing a rally in Nairobi moments after ruling, visibly angry Uhuru and Ruto stated. Though we respect this court, we do not agree with the ruling. The court has directed the IEBC to conduct a fresh election within 60 days. We will comply with these orders.
In run-up to 2022 General Election, President William Ruto’s critics painted him as person who believed in revenge, vengeance and does not forget. If you elect him, ‘you will be in for a rude shock’. This is a man who will revisit and deal with his opponents viciously and with vengeance.
If he resorts to this, he will definitely plunge our country into anarchy. But Ruto and his team of diehards always countered these claims. These people (read top leadership of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition) have sensed defeat.
They think you are so stupid that you can buy their outright lies. Come the election, I request you to trust the leadership of this country into my hands. You will see a big a difference. I will govern in accordance with the constitution and rule of law.
The pain and suffering of millions of hustlers will come to an end. I will launch the ‘Hustler Fund’ and this will give you an opportunity to borrow the loan from this kitty at single-digit interest rate. President Ruto, who marked 100 since he was sworn a few days ago, has been walking the talk. The latest move is the appointment of former Chief Justice David Maraga to chair a 20-member task-force to oversee reforms at the National Police Service and Kenya Prison Service.

President Uhuru added. We want however to tell Maraga team that we shall revisit. As it turned out, Raila opted to boycott the repeat poll, a move that took the whole world by surprise. Why did he file a petition? In repeat polls, the IEBC spent billions of shillings. If he loved Kenya, one would have expected him to spare the country from incurring the huge loses.
Back to Ruto, his decision to appoint Maraga is a clear demonstration that he has time for politics that hinders the progress and wellbeing of the country. Maraga is renowned lawyer and judge. His wealth of experience will help to collect/collate views and eventually craft reforms that resonate with wishes and aspirations of Kenyans.
