Residents of Mathira constituency have demanded transparency in issuance of tenders by their Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi both in the N-GCDF and KERRA funds.
Suspicions have been rife that all available works are handed to companies owned by contractors from another county and associated with another legislator.
Activists led by Festus Gachuri have given the legislator a two week ultimatum to lay by the names and of contractors that have been contracted either directly or through the influence of his office.
Further, they urged their representative to clarify why he has been micro-managing funds to schools whereby he or his cronies do the purchases of materials for any works in schools.
At the same time, the legislator has been at loggerheads with the local NG-CDF chairman Bishop Barnabas Kinyua whom he purported to sack slightly over a month ago.
In a letter dated 12th June 2024, and copied to the national NG-CDF board chair, the legislator purported to sack the chairman in the pretext that he is a full-time worker at the Deputy President’s office.
The letter had indicated that the last day of the bishop working as the NG-CDF chairman was last Monday, July 15.
It is worth noting that the MP and the DP have not been seeing eye to eye in the recent past, with the former throwing barbs at the second in command with abandon.
Ironically, Wamumbi was groomed from an MCA to what he is today but has lately turned out to be one of his benefactor’s harshest critics.
It’s also said that the NG-CDF chairman is on the seat courtesy of the DP who is also the immediate area Member of Parliament.
The Deputy President who was mandated by his boss to lead the war against drugs and illicit brews had ordered the closure of drinking dens that were either too close to learning institutions or breached other laws.
Last week, Wamumbi who had described the DP as being in opposition and himself in government ordered all alcoholic outlets closed unconditionally be opened to the chagrin of the second in command who as at then appeared at loggerheads with his boss.
But as face fate would have it, the cabinet was dissolved the following day thereby severing the link that the legislator is said to have utilised to intimidate his foes.
Parents in the constituency have also been sitting pretty after the promise by the MP that those with students in day secondary schools would be paying only KSh1,000 turned out not to be tenable.
