Nairobi is set to host the much-anticipated African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 final between Morocco and Madagascar this Saturday, with organizers confirming that all preparations are complete.
In a press conference at Kasarani, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, alongside senior Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) leaders and government representatives, confirmed that Kenya is ready to host the finals at the Kasarani Stadium, giving assurance that the stage is fully set.
“The reason we have called the media is to give an update on tomorrow’s finals. We have inspected Kasarani and I want to confirm to all Kenyans that preparations are complete,” Mvurya said.
The final match, which marks the official close of CHAN 2024, is expected to draw global attention, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, CAF President Patrice Motsepe, and top dignitaries from across Africa expected at the stadium. Delegations from the East African Pamoja countries, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, will be in attendance, alongside the President of Madagascar and his delegation.
Mvurya assured Kenyans that security arrangements and logistics have been well taken care of, noting that the event will be staged in a safe and organized manner.
The closing ceremony is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. with a line-up of performances from Kenyan and regional artists, before the two teams take to the pitch at 6 p.m.
“Those who have tickets should be at Kasarani by 1.30 p.m. to enjoy the full program,” the CS advised.
To widen access, the ministry has also set up five fan zones in Nairobi. Supporters who do not make it to Kasarani can follow the action at Lucky Summer, Archives in the city centre, Kibra DC grounds, Githurai and Jacaranda.
“This is going to be a classic final. It will be colorful, exciting and a proud moment for Kenya as the host of CHAN 2024. We thank Kenyans for their support and contribution in making this event a success,” the sports CS concluded.
With the final whistle tomorrow night, Kasarani will not only crown a new CHAN champion but also close a tournament that has placed Kenya at the heart of African football.
