In a country where politics has long been dominated by the seasoned and the senior, a new wave of young leaders is stepping forward — passionate, informed, and determined to reshape the narrative. Among them is Alex Karoki Jnr, a student at Mount Kenya University (MKU), whose rising star in Laikipia County has begun to turn heads across the region.
Born and raised in Laikipia, Alex embodies the dreams and struggles of a generation that has felt sidelined in national development conversations. Now in his early twenties, he is boldly stepping into the political arena, declaring his ambition to become the next Senator for Laikipia County. His aspiration is not just about holding office — it is about changing the system from within and ensuring that the youth of Laikipia have a meaningful seat at the decision-making table.
Alex Karoki Jnr is no stranger to leadership. At MKU, he has served in various student roles, most recently as a student mobilizer and youth advocate. Through these platforms, he has championed educational reforms, youth empowerment programs, and open dialogue between students and administration. His involvement in student leadership has given him firsthand experience in conflict resolution, budgeting, public speaking, and team coordination — skills he believes are directly transferable to the role of a Senator.

“I have always believed that leadership is about service. My role in university leadership has opened my eyes to how much can be done when one is genuinely committed to serving people,” says Alex.
But it is his deep connection with the ground — with the real-life issues affecting young people in Laikipia — that truly defines his mission. From unemployment to mental health, from drug abuse to lack of quality education in rural areas, Alex speaks the language of the youth because he is one of them.
Alex Karoki’s senatorial dream is fueled by a belief that youthful leadership is no longer optional — it is urgent. With over 70% of Kenya’s population under the age of 35, he argues that the country cannot afford to keep recycling the same leadership that has failed to meet the demands of a changing world.
“Young people are the heartbeat of this country. We bring new ideas, digital innovation, and unmatched energy. But we are rarely heard. If elected, I want to be the bridge — the voice that amplifies youth issues at the national level,” Alex affirms.
He believes Laikipia, like many other counties, suffers from disconnected leadership — policies that are crafted without involving the people they affect most. His plan is to bring participatory leadership, using tools like social media, community forums, and youth parliaments to ensure constant communication between the people and their Senator.
Alex is also passionate about decentralizing opportunities in the county. He envisions a Laikipia where every ward has equal access to resources, infrastructure, education, and innovation hubs. As a digital native, he advocates for integrating technology into governance — from budget tracking to citizen engagement.
If elected, Alex intends to push for three urgent policy areas. First, he wants to champion educational equality by lobbying for more funding for rural schools, supporting vocational training institutions, and ensuring transparency in bursary allocations.
Second, he is passionate about youth employment and entrepreneurship. “We have many young people in Laikipia who are talented and skilled but lack capital and mentorship. I want to work with county and national agencies to create youth development funds and job incubation programs,” he notes.
Lastly, Alex vows to be a watchdog for county resources, ensuring that Laikipia receives its fair share of national revenue and that these funds are used transparently. He supports digital audits and public disclosure of all county expenditure.
Despite his youthful outlook, Alex Karoki Jnr remains deeply rooted in the values of hard work, integrity, and faith that shaped his upbringing in Laikipia. His late father, Rev. Karoki, was known for his service to the community, a legacy that Alex carries forward with pride.
“My father taught me that leadership is about character, not position. He showed me how to listen, how to serve, and how to stand for truth even when it’s not popular,” Alex reflects.
This blend of youthful innovation and deep-rooted values gives Alex a unique edge. Unlike many career politicians, he enters the arena not with personal ambition but with a servant’s heart and a reformer’s mind.
As the 2027 general elections draw closer, Alex Karoki Jnr is rallying fellow youth, not just to vote, but to become part of the process. He envisions a youth-led movement that is peaceful, policy-driven, and people-centered.
“It’s time we stopped waiting for change and became the change. I may be a student today, but I carry the dreams of thousands of young people in Laikipia who deserve better. This is not just my race — it’s our collective journey to a better county,” he concludes.
Alex Karoki Jnr is proof that leadership is not defined by age, but by vision, purpose, and courage. As Laikipia stands at a crossroads, his candidacy offers a compelling case for youth-led change, grounded in integrity and driven by innovation.
