Mutarakwa tanker explosion

Not only will the motorists avoid delays but they will also give way for rescuers to evacuate those involved in the accident.

Cars, trucks and houses burnt after a tanker carrying LPG gas cylinders explode near Mutarakwa shopping centre.
On Sunday 13th February 2022 a tanker transporting LPG gas from Mombasa to Kisumu exploded along Limuru-Mutarakwa road near Ngenia High School.
The area residents who witnessed the incident said that around 6.00 am the driver of the tanker carrying LPG gas lost control landing into a ditch.
At around 11.30 am the management of the gas transporting company brought a crane to transfer the gas cylinders from the tanker which had got an accident to another tanker which would continue ferrying the gas cylinders to Kisumu. During that time a leakage occurred causing the gas cylinders to explode into a huge ball of fire and smoke. By the time of reporting no casualties were reported.
Limuru Sub County deputy police boss Anthony Thumi said that 7 people were injured and 6 vehicles burnt.
Due to the proximity of the scene of accident to police station they were able to act swiftly and try to control the traffic giving room for other rescuers to swing into action. All the casualties were rushed to Kikuyu hospital and other nearby hospitals. Fire fighters were also quick to come to rescue.

For traffic heading to or from Nakuru, use the Nairobi- Nakuru Highway -Traffic to or from Narok, Suswa and Mai Mahiu can use the Thogoto – Mutarakwa route or the Kwa Mbira route to avoid the affected section” the tweets read.
In the past the Limuru- Maai-Mahiu road has reported related incidents of tankers causing accidents for example in March 2015 an oil tanker lost control at a bend near the historic Italian Catholic Church causing a multiple car crash when it rammed into five vehicles before bursting into flames.
On Saturday 20th November 2021 around 7.00 pm at Ntulele four people lost their lives, after a speeding trailer lost control downhill and collided with an oncoming tanker. Three personal cars were also involved in that road crash.
