In a groundbreaking move, youth representatives at the UN Civil Society Conference on The Summit of The Future in Nairobi made their voices heard loud and clear with the adoption of the “Nairobi Declaration on the Unheard Youth Voices.” This historic declaration aims to address the marginalization of youth perspectives in global discourse and decision-making processes.
The declaration, crafted by young leaders from diverse backgrounds and regions, underscores the urgent need for meaningful youth participation in shaping policies that directly impact their lives and futures. It calls for the inclusion of youth voices at all levels of governance and emphasizes the importance of intergenerational dialogue to foster mutual understanding and collaboration.
At the heart of the declaration lied a profound affirmation of human dignity and the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. Recognizing the intrinsic value of every individual, regardless of background or circumstance, the youth leaders emphasize the need for universal recognition and protection of this fundamental truth.
Furthermore, the declaration underscores the crucial role of the family as the cornerstone of society. Upholding the traditional family structure, the youth advocates stress the importance of a biologically male husband and a biologically female wife, united in marriage and collaboration in parenting, as the bedrock of civilization.
In line with these principles, the declaration emphasizes the right to life and reproductive health, rejecting any notion of an international right to abortion. Instead, it calls for the protection of life from conception to natural death, echoing the sentiments of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).
Key highlights of the Nairobi Declaration include Recognition of youth as valuable stakeholders in addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change, social inequality, and economic development. Commitment to creating accessible platforms and opportunities for youth engagement in policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation.
Advocacy for youth-friendly policies and programs that prioritize education, employment, healthcare, and civic participation. Call for investment in youth-led initiatives and entrepreneurship to unleash the full potential of young people as drivers of innovation and sustainable development.
The adoption of the Nairobi Declaration marks a significant step towards empowering the next generation of leaders and ensuring their voices are heard and valued on the world stage. As the UN Civil Society Conference continues, participants are urged to rally behind the principles outlined in the declaration and work towards building a more inclusive and equitable future for all
