Residents are now facing serious car break-ins where thieves are stealing vehicle parts, leaving them with millions of shillings in losses.The thieves target homes with high-end vehicles, break into homes at night, poison pets, and steal car parts like side mirrors, wheels, and even chickens. Another resident, John Mburu, believes the suspects are well-organised criminal gangs and fears they will sell the items to unscrupulous traders at low prices. He urged vehicle owners to avoid buying spare parts of dubious origin to curb the trade in stolen items.The residents blame the situation on inadequate police officers and call for increased police patrols and greater cooperation with community policing initiatives like Nyumba Kumi to enhance security in the area.
Bomet County Assembly Speaker, Cosmas Korir, presided over the motion that seeks to remove from their positions Andrew Sigei (Economic Planning, Finance, and ICT), Dr. Joseph Kirui (Administration, Public Service, and Special Programmes), and Kipkoech Ngetich (Roads, Transport, and Public Works). The Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) accused the three officials of gross violations of the 2010 Constitution, incompetence, abuse of office, and gross misconduct. The motion garnered significant support, with 29 MCAs voting in favour, five abstaining, and only one voting against it. Three members were absent from the session. The Assembly has formed ad hoc committees to investigate the allegations against the CECs before presenting their findings for further debate.
Taka Pay, a waste management and recycling startup based in Machakos, has launched a software application to improve waste management in the county. The software, which uses Google+ codes and the Geographic Information System (GIS), will control collection routes, map customer locations, and monitor waste operator performance. The app will also manage revenue collection for the startup and help keep the county clean by collecting garbage and clearing bushes around commercial, institutional, and residential areas. The collected waste will be sorted into different categories, with plastics recycled into shopping baskets, dustbins, and fruit baskets, and glass waste sterilised and repurposed into various products. Since its establishment in May, the company has created jobs for over 260 people in Machakos County.
Justice John Mutugi of the Land and Environment Court says the major cases of land are related to inheritance and can easily be resolved by alternative justice systems by bringing together the elders to agree on the land matters.
“Many cases involving land revolve within the community and families, we encourage the use of Alternative Justice Systems which bring together elders and families and finally unite rather than separating them through adversarial court processes,” Justice Mutugi said.
Tana Water Works Development Agency chairman Wanyaga Gathaka yesterday held a consultative meeting with Department of Water and sanitation Principal Secretary Dr Julius Korir at his Maji House office, Nairobi where they deliberated on projects under the jurisdiction of his Agency. In a post on his Facebook page, the chairman said Dr Korir assured him of the Ministry’s support in realizing his Agency’s mission of providing the best Water and Sanitation services to citizens in their area of operations which include Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties.
