NEWS IN BRIEF 10 August 2024

Narok County Governor Patrick Ntutu

We are in discussion with the Department of Education to see how we can convert all schools in this Mosiro ward to be boarding schools to give the learners a conducive environment to learn and compete with other learners from other areas,” said Narok County Governor Patrick Ntutu.

Ntutu noted that many children would miss school because of wild animals that loiter in the bushy area looking for food and water, hence compromising their performance in national examinations.

He said the boarding schools would also help to fight retrogressive practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), early marriages, teenage pregnancies, and child labour as the children would be contained in school.

“Sometime we blame our children for not performing well in national examinations, but we do not sit back to look at their learning environment. We need to up our game by creating boarding facilities in all schools that will allow children in the upper school to board,” said Governor Ntutu.

The Education Ministry is in discussions with International Poverty Action (IPA) to establish the Education Evidence Hub (EEH), a hub that will harness the power of data to improve policy actions on education issues.

The hub, code-named Education Evidence Hub (EEH), will enable policymakers to analyse and generate usable data to guide policy actions on various aspects of education.

The Kenya Education Information System (KEMIS) will be leveraged to provide accurate data for planning and strategic decision-making on various aspects of education.

The hub is an innovative approach to policymaking that fosters the identification of cost-effective innovations in education policy, which are piloted and evaluated using administrative data to determine their effectiveness.

The hub aims to improve the consolidation, analysis, and synthesis of information to guide decision-making on education matters.
