The Principal Secretary, State Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr. Esther Muoria

The Principal Secretary, State Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Dr. Esther Muoria, has praised the Dual TVET Training Programme, which combines workplace training and TVET institutions.

The programme aims to bridge the gap between training and industry, making graduates more relevant.

The dual training policy is in the final stages and will soon be submitted to the cabinet for approval. Currently, dual training is implemented in 65 TVET institutions under the collaboration of GIZ-Kenya.

The PS also highlighted the government’s commitment to mainstream climate action through greening TVET curricula to ensure the sustainability of environmental protection.

The PS encouraged TVET institutions to optimise the utilisation of state-of-the-art equipment to provide quality training, support manufacturing, add value, and expand income-generating units.

The youth CEO of Community Initiatives for Social Equity (CISE), Joan Njeri, has urged Kenyan youth to use digital platforms for advocacy, good governance, and peacebuilding. She believes that the youth are becoming aware of these tools and need to use them for business, as well as to demand better services.

Her sentiments come as the world celebrates International Youth Day, which serves as a platform to promote youth engagement and advocate for policies that address the youth’s needs and aspirations.

Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, speaks during the engagement with AGOA Assistant United States Trade Representative held at the NSSF  Building. “The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) has been very useful in opening up export business for Kenyans, and the strategic investment partnership that is being discussed will provide a lot of room to strengthen and increase the business opportunities between Kenya and the United States,” said the CS.

Mvurya noted that the key things are in a strategic investment partnership, which consists of 11 chapters, and right now the Ministry is in the middle of the discussions.

New Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho has pledged to use his managerial skills and leadership experience to make the Ministry a significant economic force in Kenya’s development agenda. Joho believes the Ministry is the next frontier for wealth and job creation, and will work closely with the Ministry team and cabinet colleagues to realise this vision. The CS said he will encourage investments at all levels to ensure Kenyans benefit from the ministry’s activities by focusing on value addition. Joho added that he will fast-track the ongoing reforms initiated by his predecessor and share his vision of deepening inter-ministerial ties as part of adopting a unified whole-of-government approach.

Hakijamii Legal Consultant Dr. Conrad Bosire

Hakijamii Legal Consultant Dr. Conrad Bosire addresses the media in Naivasha during a capacity-building session of 51 judges of the Environment and Land Court from various countries in Africa to enhance their knowledge on climate change in order to enrich their jurisprudence and judicial decision-making. Bosire said they resolved to expand capacity building by investing in regular training to keep the judges informed of the latest legal, scientific, and policy developments in climate change biodiversity.

They further agreed to promote progressive jurisprudence by documenting key decisions that integrate climate change impacts, diversity needs, environmental rights, and equitable incomes.

Nairobi Environment and Land Court Judge, Justice Jackie Mogeni, who is also President of the Pan-African Association for Judges of Environment, Land, and Labour (PAAJELLA), addresses the press in Naivasha on the sidelines of a training workshop to equip the judges with skills and knowledge on climate change and biodiversity to enhance their jurisprudence and judicial decision making. Mogeni called on the judicial officers to understand climate justice and governance in the face of unprecedented challenges from climate and environmental change.

Mogeni emphasised the need for targeted capacity building for judges handling these matters, as climate change justice is a cross-cutting issue that intersects with human rights and impacts many areas.

A multi-agency team led by Bomet County Commissioner Dr. Ahmed Omar

A multi-agency team led by Bomet County Commissioner Dr. Ahmed Omar has arrested one suspect and seized over 1,000 cartons of second-generation alcohol valued at Sh1.8 million in a crackdown on illicit liquor.

The operation was conducted at a liquor storage facility in Kimulot Centre, in partnership with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), the Kenya Bureau of Statistics (KEBS), and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). The suspect was operating the liquor storage under the guise of a retail business while engaging in wholesale transactions, a violation of the Alcoholic Drinks Act. The suspect had been running a distribution network, selling illicit alcohol to unsuspecting customers throughout the county. The arrested individual is currently held at Kimulot Police Station and is expected to face charges instituted by KEBS and KRA today.

Othaya constituency Member of Parliament Michael Wambugu Wainaina alias MountKenya yesterday joined Christian faithful in Sunday service. The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) law maker visited Martyrs of Uganda Shrine Kagere Catholic Church before proceeding to Gituiga Catholic Church, then to Mutune African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA), Gituiga AIPCA and later Miiri-ini PCEA. As he articulated some of the projects the local NG-CDF team has undertaken, the MP called on county government to account for its development activities saying the electorate had a right to demand to know how funds given out by the National government to the devolved unit are utilized.

National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) wants the law to be amended to prescribe punitive action against public institutions that violate diversity and inclusivity requirements. The commission proposed a fine of not less than KSh10 million or imprisonment for a term of not less than five years for institutions that violate diversity and inclusivity laws. The commission further wants the new law to introduce a threshold of ethnic group representation in public establishments for senior management positions, as well as other job cadres. Further, the National Cohesion and Integration Act 2008 prohibits a single community from occupying more than a third of employment positions in state-owned firms.
