Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has called on county governments to protect the Agricultural Society of Kenya lands from encroachment and land grabbers, stressing that the property must remain under A.S.K’s control and be made economically productive. The CS noted that ASK property is public agricultural land and must be safeguarded as such and counties should not allow land grabbers or other interests to take over these assets.
Speaking during the official opening of the 2025 ASK Kakamega Show on Friday, Kagwe emphasized the need for counties to support the transformation of A.S.K grounds into income-generating, innovation-driven centers for agriculture, agribusiness, and youth empowerment. He further warned individuals and groups involved in illegal acquisition of public agricultural land that they will face legal consequences.
Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga chaired a consultative meeting with the African Development Bank and the National Treasury to review progress on the implementation of the East Africa Centre of Excellence in Urology and Nephrology project. The Friday meeting brought together key stakeholders, including Ms. Nadege Balima from the African Development Bank, Mr. Samuel Nyoike from the National Treasury, and Dr. Ajuck Hossin from the Ministry of Health.
The government is in the process of reviewing the current labour laws to align them with emerging issues in the world of work, with an aim of advancing social justice for all. Principal Secretary, State Department for Labour and Skills Development Shadrack Mwadime, says the government recognises promotion and protection of human rights and labour rights as indispensable pillars for sustainable development, which should not be treated as a privilege but a universal entitlement inherent to every individual by virtue of their humanity.
Drawing a parallel between human rights and economic development, the PS observed that “human rights are enablers of sustainable development as they ensure development is inclusive, participatory, and equitable.” He made the remarks when he addressed the
Annual Forum of the Global Coalition for Social Justice at the ongoing ILO conference in Palais des Nations, in Geneva, Switzerland, convened under the theme “Human Rights Economy”.
Irrigation Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimotho has reaffirmed that the proposed Radat Dam in Mogotio, Baringo County, will be designed to benefit both upstream and downstream communities through solarization and sustainable water access.
Speaking during a public participation forum on the land compensation process, Kimotho said the project is people-centered and will only commence after 100 per cent land compensation has been achieved. He was accompanied by key government figures, including National Treasury PS Chris Kiptoo, Secretary Administration Yatich Kipkemei, Secretary for Programs Eng. Michael Thuita, Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, Baringo Women Representative Flowrence Jematiah, and Mogotio MP Reuben Kiborek.
