During UNEA6 held at the UNEP, Alex Gathii, a Dairy Investment Consultant and Certified Cowsignals Master trainer presented a paper on how to reduce methane footprints in milk and milk products. It also included the vaccination aspect of livestock, increasing productivity, harvesting fodder at the right stage, increasing fodder productivity per unit area, minimum tillage among other aspects. Gathii, the Managing Director of Tanolope Consultancy, dairy consulting firms says vaccination issue needs some more research or piloting before it is fully implemented. He says the issue at hand is how much GHS – methane does livestock in Africa produces compared to the Major GHS producing countries in the world? How does less fart from the livestock in Africa significantly reduce GHS emissions? Does the same vaccine residue find its way to Livestock products thus getting into the food chain?. A few more scientific questions need to be answered before piloting is done, he argues.
