The agricultural cooperation between Kenya and the Netherlands is built on a strong foundation of mutual interest in advancing sustainable agricultural practices, improving food security, and fostering economic growth. Yesterday, Principal Secretary State Department for Agriculture Paul Rono addressed a high-level meeting during the Kenya-Netherlands Trade Mission at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Nairobi.
Through collaborative initiatives such as the Agriculture Working Group (AWG), both countries have tackled regulatory challenges, strengthened phytosanitary and veterinary systems, and promoted capacity-building programs for Kenyan farmers and institutions. This cooperation is crucial in addressing emerging global issues like climate change, food insecurity, and market access while ensuring a conducive business environment for Dutch and Kenyan stakeholders alike.
Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth met with Dr. Azita Emami, Dean of Yale School of Nursing, to discuss potential collaboration in strengthening nursing education and advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC). The meeting focused on sharing experiences and identifying areas of mutual interest for future engagement and partnerships. Dr. Emami expressed interest in understanding the role of Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in enhancing primary healthcare access and UHC implementation in Kenya.
She also highlighted Yale’s interest in partnering with the Ministry of Health to train nurses at the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and doctoral levels in Leadership and Management. Dr. Amoth welcomed the collaboration, noting that Kenya has already begun training Nurse Practitioners (NPs) through the Nursing Council of Kenya and aims to expand the program to improve healthcare coverage. The Ministry expressed readiness to share insights on UHC implementation and the contributions of CHPs in strengthening primary healthcare access.
Kenya is set to host the World Health Conference and Expo by Informa Markets in October 2025 in Nairobi, marking the first major global healthcare expo in East Africa. This event will provide a platform to showcase Kenya’s healthcare innovations, investment opportunities, and advancements in medical technology. With evolving global disease patterns and rapid technological advancements, the conference will bring together specialists from commercial, professional, and academic sectors to foster knowledge transfer, strategic partnerships, and healthcare investment. The event aligns with Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda, reinforcing the country’s position as a leader in healthcare innovation and investment in Africa. It will offer networking opportunities for local and international stakeholders and further establish Kenya as a regional healthcare hub.

Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir yesterday chaired a meeting between Ministry officials, Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency CEO,
Central Rift Valley Water Works Development AgencyCEO and the Kipkaren Water Supply Project Contractor with an aim of resolving outstanding issues to ensure the project is completed. Both parties agreed to have their technical teams review and resolve pending issues to allow the works to be repackaged and the new contractor to take over the project. The project which is located in Uasin Gishu County will have a storage capacity of 10,000 cubic meters, pipeline distribution of 41.3km and will supply upto 24375 cubic meters of water per day to over 100,000 people.
Principal Secretary, State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs, Joseph Motari and his counterpart in the State Department for Gender and Affirmative Action, Ann Wang’ombe, yesterday held a joint briefing with the Kenyan delegation at the Kenya Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. The briefing took place during the Sixty-Ninth Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 69). During the session, the Principal Secretaries highlighted Kenya’s commitment to advancing gender equality, social protection, and affirmative action. They emphasized the importance of the upcoming Interactive Dialogue on Poverty Eradication, Social Protection, and Social Services, where delegates would engage in discussions on strengthening policy frameworks and enhancing social protection initiatives to empower vulnerable populations.
