Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki yesterday had a consultative engagement with Meru County leaders on priority projects and agreed on a roadmap for timely and successful implementation of ongoing and proposed National and County Governments development programmes. Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza led leaders who included Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma, Senator Kathuri Murungi, Elizabeth Kailemia (Woman Representative), Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), Dr. Shadrack Mwiti (Imenti South), Kirima Moses (Imenti Central), Rahim Dawood (Imenti North), Dr. John Mutunga (Tigania West ), Mpuru Aburi (Tigania East), John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), Dan Kiili (Igembe Central), Julius Taitumu (Igembe North), Dorothy Muthoni (Nominated), 75 Members of the County Assembly led by Speaker Ayub Bundi. Cabinet Secretary for Water and Irrigation Eric Mugaa, Principal Secretaries; Roselyn Njogu (Diaspora Affairs), Patrick Kilemi (Cooperatives), senior government officials, professionals and grassroots leaders were present. During the forum, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah reiterated the role of Parliament in accelerating the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda(BETA) and expeditious delivery of services to the people of Meru County and the country at large.
This week, the Ministry of Health, through the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, is hosting a 3-day stakeholder sensitization workshop in Kakamega County. The workshop focuses on: Public awareness, Stakeholder sensitization and Capacity building to address the growing challenge of drug abuse, including emerging threats like novel tobacco and nicotine products. Bringing together national and county government officials, as well as participants from key agencies, this initiative aims to strengthen efforts to protect our communities and promote healthier lifestyles.
Detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit, in collaboration with investigators from DCI Ruiru, have apprehended Dennis Wafula Wanabisi, a police officer stationed at DCI Kibwezi, in connection to a robbery with violence incident that occurred in Mtito Andei on July 22, 2024. On that day, police received reports of two robberies at Yikisaya Trading Centre within Kibwezi Sub-County. Responding quickly, officers discovered that a gang of four robbers, dressed in jungle uniforms and armed with a pistol, had entered 021 CLUB. They threatened bar attendants and customers, ordering them to surrender their belongings. In the course of the robbery, one bar attendant was shot in the stomach and sustained serious injuries, while the robbers made off with KSh50,000 in cash. The gang then proceeded to Darajani Shopping Centre, where they forced their way into Seton Night Club. There, the robbers fired two shots into the air before robbing bar attendants and customers of KSh25,850 and two mobile phones. Preliminary investigations indicated that Officer Wanabisi is connected to or may possess information regarding the two robbery incidents. Following this revelation, his firearm was confiscated, and the empty cartridges recovered from the scenes of both incidents were sent to DCI Headquarters for ballistic examination. Analysis confirmed that the cartridges were fired from Wanabisi’s firearm.
Women are at the heart of agriculture and food systems transformation, contributing significantly to all activities along the entire value chain including production, processing, household preparation of food and marketing. Yet, they continue to face systemic barriers, including limited access to resources, education, and decision-making power. To address these challenges, the government has collaborated with Germany’s BMZ/GIZ, German International Cooperation and Kenya’s Amka Africa to co-host a three-day conference in Nairobi dubbed, “Together: Strengthening Women’s Voices for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems.” from yesterday to tomorrow. Speaking on behalf of PS, Paul Ronoh, the Secretary Engineering, Eng. Laban Kiplagat, emphasized the need to amplify women’s voices in shaping resilient and equitable agri-food systems. He commended the conference for prioritizing women’s leadership in agriculture and called for collaboration among County Governments, researchers, and communities to break barriers, invest in women-led solutions, and drive policy change.
Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Julius Korir, held a crucial meeting with representatives from UNICEF and UN-Habitat to discuss Climate Adaptation Funds for the water sector. During the meeting, the Principal Secretary emphasized the urgent need to prioritize long-term, sustainable projects in drought-stricken regions such as Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, and Marsabit. These areas face extreme climate swings, from devastating floods to prolonged droughts, severely impacting water access and livelihoods. Key highlights from the discussion included; Focus on projects that build resilience and ensure sustainable water access for communities.
Special attention drought and flood prone areas of Mandera, Garissa, Wajir, and Marsabit to address their unique challenges and Strengthening collaboration with UNICEF and UN-Habitat to mobilize resources and implement innovative climate adaptation strategies.
This partnership marks a significant step towards securing a climate-resilient future for Kenya’s water sector.

The Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix yesterday received a courtesy call from the Public Service Commission, led by Chairman Amb. Anthony Muchiri and Deputy Mary Kimonye.
