The inaugural Murang’a DCP aspirants meeting was held yesterday at the party’s branch office in Murang’a. The forum focused on party recruitment, grassroots mobilization, and preparations for the upcoming national launch.
The meeting was chaired by Secretary General Hezron Obaga and the Murang’a County Coordinator who is a former Principal Secretary Joseph Irungu Wairagu (Wamae). Also in attendance were National Vice Chair Mably Owino and Diaspora Secretary Alvinah Kabura, who reaffirmed the party’s commitment to inclusive leadership and citizen-driven politics.
Murang’a aspirants pledged to intensify local engagement and uphold the values of Skiza Wakenya.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has cautioned Kenyans enrolled under the Social Health Authority (SHA) against colluding with health facilities to defraud the insurer, warning that such acts jeopardise a system meant to serve all.
Duale defended the SHA initiative—a flagship programme of President William Ruto’s administration—stating that it is already yielding tangible benefits. He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its integrity and effectiveness. “SHA is working. We will not allow anyone to steal from it and compromise its operations,” he asserted.
As the 2030 deadline for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) approaches, expert are calling for urgent adoption of True Value Accounting (TVA) in agriculture to ensure sustainable food production that supports both human and planetary health. Speaking during a two-day workshop in Iten under the “True Value of Food Kenya” project, Prof. Jacqueline McGlade of Strathmore University emphasised that TVA captures the full economic, environmental, and social costs and benefits of food systems, offering a path toward healthier soils and resilient food chains. Prof. McGlade warned of widespread soil degradation due to overuse of chemical fertilisers and poor land-use practices. She urged farmers to embrace agroecology, including use of cover crops, crop rotation, minimum tillage, and organic fertilisers to restore soil carbon and microbial health.
Gender, Culture and Children Services Cabinet Secretary Hanna Cheptumo has announced that the government is rolling out a nationwide programme to reintegrate street families into society. Cheptumo said the exercise will be spearheaded by a special committee under the Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund. The programme, which will be implemented across all 47 counties, will focus on reuniting individuals with their families, enrolling children in school, and equipping adults with technical and vocational skills to promote self-reliance. The CS revealed that the reintegration effort targets the 46,639 individuals mapped during the 2018 national street families census. The census showed the highest concentrations of street families in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Uasin Gishu and Nakuru, with youth aged 19–34 years and children below 19 forming the bulk of the population.
Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has expressed concern over the ongoing Gen Z-led protests, warning that if left unchecked, they could plunge the country into anarchy. The Senator said the demonstrations—some of which have turned violent—pose a serious threat to Kenya’s social and economic stability. Mundigi urged the youth to resist being used by political players to settle scores. He also called on those organising protests in commemoration of Saba Saba Day on Monday to rescind their decision to allow the country to move on peacefully. He also called on the government to prosecute individuals involved in looting and destruction of property, noting that such acts derail national progress.

The Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation, Mr. Julius Korir yesterday held a meeting with the senior management team of the National Water Harvesting & Storage Authority (NWHSA) led by the Ag. CEO Eng. Julius Mugun at Maji House. The Authority, whose core mandate includes the development of national public water works for water storage and flood control, plays a critical role in securing Kenya’s water future. The engagement was aimed at bringing the Principal Secretary up to speed with the Authority’s ongoing and planned programs and projects across the country all geared towards increasing water availability, building climate resilience, and supporting livelihoods through sustainable infrastructure.
The PS noted that the Ministry remains committed to supporting the Authority in delivering on its mandate, as we work towards universal access to safe and reliable water by 2030.
