Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture has developed an online National Horticulture Traceability System (NHTS) to automate the process of traceability of fresh produce from farm to market. The system, developed in partnership with the USAID-funded Kenya Crops and Dairy Market Systems (RTI-KCDMS) project, aims to increase transparency and accountability in horticultural supply chains in response to challenges faced by the industry in complying with EU international food safety requirements. The system will bring about a paradigm shift in the horticulture sector and other agricultural sectors, with the aim of integrating it with other relevant government agencies for ease of access by stakeholders. The Kenyan horticulture industry is the leading sub-sector, particularly in the production of export produce. In 2022, Kenya exported 391,507 tonnes of horticultural produce valued at Sh147 billion, with the European Union, Netherlands, and UK being major buyers.

A 65-year-old retiree, Moses Munyori, has revealed that he lost over Sh1.8 million of his golden handshake to dubious investment schemes. Munyori, a former employee of the Kenya Post and Telecommunications Company, lost money in various company shares, including the Fountain Enterprise Programme (FEP), Kenya Airways shares, the Cooperative Society, and Kenya Post and Telecommunications. He also lost money after investing in Kenya Airways shares, the Cooperative Society, and Kenya Post and Telecommunications. Munyori blames his financial woes on his failure to exercise due diligence on the credibility of the schemes and the lack of government regulations for investment schemes. He attributed the current sanity of investment schemes to tight government regulations and encouraged young people to invest only in registered schemes. The Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) is overseeing 1,076 registered schemes with 7.1 million memberships and supervising 26 fund managers.
