Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Barasa, is urging swift and focused action to address the rising burden of cervical cancer, which remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in the country. Speaking at a cervical cancer awareness media briefing in a speech read by Dr Edward Serena on Friday, Dr. Barasa stressed the need for a shift in the healthcare model, from a curative approach to one that prioritizes prevention. This shift supports the country’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals, focusing on expanding access to Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, routine screenings, and timely treatment. She noted that the government is working to integrate cervical cancer prevention into primary healthcare services nationwide.
Fight against maternal mortality in Baringo County has received a major boost after a non-governmental organization called Dandelion Africa donated maternal health equipment to all its seven sub counties. Speaking during the handing over of the equipment at the Governor’s office in Kabarnet town on Thursday, the organizations programs manager, Ruth Nderitu, stated that the tools which includes a complete Mama Natalie Birthing Simulators, IEC Materials, essential maternal emergency commodities and indicator tracking charts will go a long way to further reducing the numbers in the region with a mortality rate of 30 mothers in every 100,000. Nderitu stated that they were keen in supplementing the county government efforts in improving the livelihoods and health outcomes of the local communities throughpq the maternal infant health award programme which has also seen 96 health care workers trained on Emergency Obstetric and newborn care (EmONC).
Baringo County has hosted the ‘Mama Kitchen Garden Community Field Day and Exhibition’ at Koibatek Agricultural Training Centre, which was presided by Principal Secretary, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh and Governor Benjamin Cheboi. The event which was themed “Promoting Technologies and Innovations for Household Income, Food Safety, and Food Security,” marked the start of the planting season. The field day united stakeholders, including seed companies, fertilizer suppliers, and exhibitors showcasing innovations in crops, livestock, mechanization, and agricultural technologies. Ronoh outlined government milestones such as access to certified seeds, subsidized fertilizers, and a conducive investment environment, transforming sectors like maize, sugar, tea, and horticulture.
Hawkshaws drawn from DCI Headquarters have arrested Stephen Mugambi Colbert who earlier this month and with others who are yet to be arrested conspired to defraud a Nigerian national a sum of 150 million Naira. While presenting themselves as genuine business men, Mugambi and his cabal of malefactors approached the victim pretending that they were in a position to hire a private jet to transport unspecified investments funds from Kenya to Nigeria, a fact they knew to be false.
Unbeknownst of the foul play, the victim made the payment amounting to 150 million naira only to realize later that he had been played when he could no longer reach Stephen or his cabal of friends in crime.
