Bungoma County is conducting a 21-day data collection exercise to register vulnerable members of society, culminating in an Enhanced Single Registry (ESR) entity.
The exercise, targeting 130,894 households, aims to collect accurate and adequate data on the elderly and People Living with Disability.
The ESR aims to store information for vulnerable households, establishing a database for potential beneficiaries and those existing for social protection.
The data will facilitate linkages to more services for greater social and economic inclusion for the vulnerable in the community.
The exercise is taking place in all 13 sub-counties in Bungoma, including Mt. Elgon Forest. 866 enumerators and 87 supervisors have been recruited to carry out the exercise.
Machakos County Government has sacked 121 staff members for using fake Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates to secure employment.
County Secretary Muya Ndambuki revealed that the fake certificates were discovered during a verification exercise for 5,018 employees.
The Kenya National Examination Council found 121 certificates invalid, and the county government will initiate a process to recover funds paid to the officers.
A validation process for diploma and degree certificates is also underway. Additionally, 14 revenue officers have been interdicted for malpractices related to revenue collection in Mwala Subcounty, including cash collection, processing fake licenses, and colluding with business owners to evade permit payment.
The cases have been forwarded to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
The government has launched and operationalised the artisanal mining committee for West Pokot County to help fight illegal mining operations.
Speaking during the launch of the committee in Kapenguria town, Director of Mines in the State Department for Mining Gregory Kituki stated that the committee serves as an advisory body to the representative of the director of mines on permit grant, renewal and revocation at the county level.
He expressed his satisfaction with the operationalization of the committee, stating that it will contribute to economic growth and help combat illegal mining activities in the region, which are prevalent in the County.
“The establishment of the artisanal committee also aims to create employment opportunities,’’ Kituku said.
Kituku stressed launch of artisan mining committee was part of the Ministry’s efforts to formalize artisanal mining cooperatives.
Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo, said the government is set to digitise at least 80% of public services and make them available on the E-Citizen platform.
The state has so far digitised 17,000 services, allowing citizens to access these services wherever they are, coupled with internet connectivity and device affordability.
The Digital Transformation Agenda aims to ensure citizens have access to broadband services, ICT devices, and the skills to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
The Kenyan government is on course to deploy 100,000 km of fibre and establish 25,000 public WIFI hotspots and 1,450 ICT hubs across the country in the next five years.
The establishment of 1,450 ICT hubs and 25,000 WIFI hotspots is geared towards creating digital marketplaces and boosting connectivity for traders and entrepreneurs, particularly the youth, to get gainful employment in the digital ecosystem.
