Kenya Power has received a Sh1.85 billion grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to support the Last Mile Connectivity Project (LMCP).
The project aims to connect 9,121 households in four counties, including Nakuru, Kilifi, Kwale, and Nyandarua, to the grid by January next year.
Funded by the French Development Agency, the European Union, and the European Investment Bank, it will connect 280,000 new customers by November next year.
The project is anchored on the Kenya National Electrification Strategy, which aims to speed up electricity access for households and businesses.
Since its inception in 2015, the Last Mile Connectivity Project has significantly contributed to the growth of the electricity access rate in Kenya, currently at 76% with 9.6 million households connected to the grid.

Parents of Nyali School, are in dispute with the School management and are seeking to obtain crucial documents through the school’s Board of Trustees Chairman.
Parents waited for the embattled Chairman outside a Mombasa Church, unaware that he allegedly left in a different vehicle.
Kelvin Opiyo, a parent at the school, accused the trustees of vacillating on the problems facing the school and overstaying in the position beyond the required term limit.
Mathira constituency businessman and philanthropist Dominic Muraya alias ‘Mathira Finest’ over the weekend sponsored a Pool-Game tournament at Chieni Shopping centre that saw winners walk away with cash prizes worth thousands of shillings. The tournament attracted dozens of players from Gatung’ang’a, Chieni, Kahiraini and Mikundi among others areas.
Muraya whose tournament is being referred to as DMM Pool Table Tournament said his aim is to engage pool players and enhance their talent. He said he would be organising similar tournaments in other parts of the constituency which he is eying to represent in the National Assembly after the 2027 General Election. Players thanked him for organising the tournament saying it was a clear way of engaging them positively and wooing them out vices that are not only harmful to them but also the society.
The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) has a new Chief Executive Officer. Dr Purity Muthoni Ngina was yesterday sworn in as the Commission Secretary and CEO during a colourful ceremony that was presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome and attended by the NGEC Commissioners and staff led by their chairperson Dr Joyce Mwikali Mutinda. The new CEO was also accompanied by several of her relatives and friends during the event that took place at The Supreme Court premises. In 2018, Dr Ngina (3rd right in the picture) became the youngest PHD holder at only 28 after studying Biomathematics.
