Agriculture and Livestock Development CS Mutahi Kagwe yesterday held a consultative meeting with tea subsector stakeholders where they discussed critical concerns affecting the tea sector, including the unsold tea stocks in Mombasa, and also the search for new markets. The meeting brought together key industry leaders, among them Tea Board of Kenya (TBK) Chairman Jacob Kamau Kahiu, TBK CEO Willy Mutai, and representatives from the Kenya Tea Development Agency – Holdings Limited (KTDA) led by Chief Executive Officer Wilson Muthaura. The CS noted that the government is committed to bolster Kenya’s competitiveness in global markets, thereby ensuring that farmers get the best returns for their efforts. As part of consolidating key existing markets and breaking into ones, Kenya will be participating in the Gulf Food Festival 2025 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which will be taking place from February 17 to 21.
The government is dedicated to enhancing global health security, nutrition, and capacity building through strategic partnerships. Yesterday, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, met with French Ambassador Arnaud Suquet and Dr. Serawit Bruck-Landais, Chairperson of the Development Partners for Health in Kenya (DPHK), to discuss Kenya’s involvement in the Pandemic Treaty negotiations, pandemic preparedness collaboration, and the country’s participation in the 2025 Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit in Paris. Kenya will highlight key nutrition initiatives, such as school feeding programs and food security efforts. In partnership with the French Embassy, the Ministry of Health will host a Pre-Summit Round Table at Alliance Française on 25th February.
The High Court has barred counties from issuing new bursaries, citing constitutional limits on funding national government functions. The ruling upholds a Controller of Budget Dr Margaret Nyakang’o’s circular restricting county bursaries to pre-primary and vocational education. The case, filed by Katiba Institute, will be heard on February 18. With the orders, thousands of students face uncertainty as county funds remain frozen.
A police officer has been taken for mental examination at Bondo Sub County Hospital after he allegedly stabbed two patients at the facility where he had been admitted on Friday with an undisclosed condition. Mohammed Gure, an officer attached to the Aram police station in Rarieda sub-county, is reported to have attacked fellow patients at the ward with a knife, leaving them with serious injuries. According to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Evans Ogoti, the officer stabbed the two patients in the General Ward with a knife before he was subdued by the support staff.

NACADA has organised a roadshow that is aimed at sensitizing Laikipia residents on drugs and substances in the next five days. The roadshow will traverse the areas most hit by drug and substance abuse including Kanyoni, Likii, Majengo, Kwa Mbuzi, Mia Moja among other areas before heading to Meru county. Laikipia East Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Muli (with Kenyan flag) and NACADA Rift Valley Regional Coordinator, Andrew Githui, launched the campaign in Nanyuki town yesterday.
