The relatives of the late KVDA Managing Director Silvanos Tubei have called on the government to bring the murderers to justice, as the remains of a body suspected to be his were exhumed at his home in Chepkumum Keiyo South Subcounty. The remains were found in a shallow grave next to his house, where they had been lying for the last 12 years. The relatives, led by his brother Alexander Tubei, remember the events at the time they converged in the home five days after the deceased was reported missing and launched a search but never found him. They believe that the recovered remains belonged to their kin, as they were sure that he never left the home. Keiyo South OCPD Abdullahi Dahir assured the family that the government will do all within its power to ensure the culprits are arrested and face the law. The OCPD called on the relatives to cooperate and provide all the necessary information to the police, which will greatly help in the investigations.
Igembe South MP Johnpaul Mwirigi has pledged to establish an ICT hub to help jobless youths access online jobs and enhance digital literacy. He issued National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) bursaries at Auki primary school in Igembe South sub-county, urging youths to take advantage of the hub and providing free digital literacy training. Mwirigi promised to ensure all applicants received a share of the bursary and urged students to commit to their academic endeavors. He thanked the national government for prioritizing ICT integration into the national development agenda, stating that online jobs can lead to earnings over Sh30,000 a week, addressing high unemployment rates among youths.
The Chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee in Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro, has announced that funds for bursaries under the NG-CDF kitty will be released before students report for the first term. The government is working tirelessly to ensure that learners who depend on NG-CDF bursaries do not fail to report back to school for term-one studies. Nyoro said priority will be given to the portion of the NG-CDF that caters for bursaries, with other funds to be released later. He assured that money for bursaries will be released before the end of next week. Nyoro, who hosted 15 legislators at Nyakihai primary school, visited Kiharu Constituency to benchmark various projects and programmes implemented by the local NG-CDF, highlighting the support it is providing in the education sector. He praised the labor-based model where the NG-CDF provides funds to schools and locals take on the role of providing labour, stating that this method has curtailed expenses and enabled the implementation of many projects. Nyoro hopes that other constituencies will adopt this more economical model of doing work.
The government has been urged to increase the capitation allocated to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) to ensure smooth operation. The Kenya Primary Schools Head Teachers Association (KEPSHA) Laikipia East Representative Peter Ndumia urged the national government to increase the capitation allocated to schools to enhance practical areas. He emphasized the importance of competency-based curriculum and the need for proper funding to prevent halting areas that require practical learning. Schools are also developing measures to cut the cost of school operations.
Equity Bank Wings to Fly scholarships were awarded to eight needy and bright learners from humble backgrounds in Nanyuki. The program was a competitive selection process, with over 190 needy students applying for secondary school admissions. The Lodwar County Referral (LCRH) Hospital has been praised for its dedication and has been granted operational autonomy. Additional funds will be allocated to improve healthcare. The county government plans to invest in mega projects, improve existing facilities, and recruit specialist medical professionals.
