Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe officially inaugurated the National Livestock Development and Promotion Service (NLDPS) Board, marking a significant step in strengthening the livestock sector. He assured the team of full support in ensuring adherence to the Mwongozo Corporate Governance Code and advancing the Government’s Agenda with a strong focus on the livestock value chain. With livestock contributing 90% of employment and over 95% of family incomes in ASAL regions, the CS challenged the board to go beyond expectations by driving investments in value addition. The CS who was accompanied by among others, PS Jonathan Mueke highlighted key initiatives such as the Leather Industry Park in Kenanie and the National Livestock Vaccination campaign as critical pillars of sectoral growth as he urged them to train farmers in good animal husbandry to improve the quality of leather, leverage ICT for efficiency and innovation and adopt a long-term vision to boost livestock’s contribution from 42% of the Agricultural GDP and 12% of the national GDP.
Tana Water Works Development Agency chairman Teobald Mukundi Wambugu alias Temuwa yesterday led the groundbreaking of Githagara Mairo Water Infrastructure Relocation Project marking a significant step towards ensuring continued access to clean and safe water a section of Othaya and Mukurwe-ini constituencies residents. The event was graced by among others management the agency led by Chief Executive Officer Eng. Philip Gichuki as well political leaders from the two electoral areas and national government security and administration officers. The project is being undertaken by MacPlan Engineering company.
Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eng. Eric Mugaa accompanied by Water and Sanitation Principal Secretary Julius Korir and other Ministry officials appeared before the Senate Standing Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources to present the next financial year Budget Policy Statement. The committee considered among other things the proposed policies and expenditure ceilings for the State Department for Water and Sanitation and the implementation status of the current financial year budget as at 31st December 2024.

Traders at the Lukolis market centre in Teso South Sub County have expressed their joy over the planned construction of a modern market at the centre by the national. The government, through the state department of Housing and Urban Development, is expected to construct an economic stimulus package (ESP) market at a cost of approximately Sh50 million. Led by Tophista Omuse, traders said the current environment has remained a challenge to them as they do their business because they are exposed to the elements.
Nakuru County’s bodaboda sector, while providing essential transportation services, continues to face significant challenges that impact both riders and the wider community. Issues such as unregulated operations, safety concerns, and infrastructure deficiencies persist, despite recent efforts by the county government to address them. A meeting convened by Nakuru County Government, in collaboration with bodaboda operators from Nakuru West, sought to tackle key operational concerns. However, the underlying problems within the sector remained substantial. Chief Inspector Mohamed Abdi of Kaptembwo Police Station today acknowledged the security concerns, indicating a persistent issue of crime and unsafe practices within the sector.
Reports of reckless riding, traffic violations, and involvement in criminal activities continued to be a concern, endangering both riders and pedestrians, Abdi said.
