Kenya’s government has assured that all Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will take place despite increased rains and insecurity in some areas. The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Chief Executive Officer Charles Ong’ondo has stated that transport facilities, including helicopters, have been put in place to ensure examination papers and candidates access the various centres. The Ministry of Interior has assured KNEC and the country that all areas affected by insecurity will be properly secured to ensure all candidates do the exams without interference. The KNEC has made all the arrangements through a multi-agency approach, working as a team to ensure all children will do the exams as expected.
Kenya’s government and private sectors are working together to develop new technologies to ensure farmers’ crops are not damaged during storage before sale. One such technology is the Hermetic Storage Technology Bags, which preserve stored grains while restricting the presence of cereal pests by depleting oxygen levels. The Mavuno Bora Hermetic storage bag, produced by Packaging Industries Limited (PIL), is unique in that it has a plastic liner inside a hermetic bag infused with a chemical that repels rodents. This innovative bag incorporates non-toxic and non-poisonous food-grade additives that deter rodents from approaching or chewing through the bag’s material. The Mavuno Bora Hermetic storage bag has been pivotal in reducing post-harvest losses, ensuring a chemical-free organic storage solution, and ensuring food security in regions with high agricultural output. The Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KARLO) conducted rigorous testing on the bags, and the findings and endorsement have solidified the bag’s reputation as a game-changer in the field of agricultural storage solutions. In addition to rodent repellent hermetic bags, PIL has also developed specialised bags called “Mama Silage bags” designed for the efficient preservation of animal fodder. These bags have played a pivotal role in Kenya’s heavy reliance on livestock farming, especially in rural areas. Rodent repellent bags are available in various agro-dealer shops nationwide and can be purchased directly by farmers, cutting costs on transportation.
Kajiado County has received a medical consignment and drugs worth Sh5.3 million from the World Health Organisation (WHO). The consignment, which includes medical equipment, drugs, and nutrition commodities like therapeutic milk F100 and F75, will be distributed to all rural facilities in the county. County Health Executive Committee Member Alex Kilowua expressed gratitude for the donation and said it would help respond to emergencies during the rainy season. The consignment will be distributed to rural health facilities to provide adequate healthcare for residents who cannot access health facilities in towns due to floods. The donation was made after Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku visited WHO offices in Nairobi in September to strengthen the partnership between the county and WHO.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has announced that the Kiharu ‘Masomo bora’ program will provide a detailed infrastructure uplift for all 61-day schools in Murang’a during the current long holidays. The program also includes a budget for revision books for day secondary schools, meals for 13,000 students, and a university funding model for over 45,000 students. Nyoro also noted that the economy is on its way to recovery, with local stores experiencing a significant decrease in maize flour prices. The government has also allocated funds for the agriculture sector through food security policies, and plans to ensure sufficient driers to prevent harvest waste.
