Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki yesterday held a consultative meeting with representatives of small-scale business people operating within markets in Nairobi County where they agreed on the interventions of the National Government to supplement what the county administration is doing to support the traders in the Central Business District (CBD); Wakulima, Gikomba, Muthurwa and Kariokor markets, Country Bus, Nyamakima, River Road, Railways, Pumwani Road, Bus Station and OTC.
President William Ruto unveiled a comprehensive food security and socio-economic livelihood improvement plan for Elgeyo Marakwet County. Speaking at TOT during the Kerio Valley interdenominational prayers on Sunday, the President directed Irrigation Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimotho to collaborate with county leadership to develop a robust plan for the revival of irrigated farming. This initiative aims to bolster food security, create jobs, and drive the socio-economic transformation of farmers.
The government has committed a seed capital of KSh100 million for irrigation development in the county.
As schools opened yesterday, Basic Education Principal Secretary, Dr. Belio Kipsang visited learning institutions. Such schools are like Murema Primary and Junior School in Kasarani where he toured the school to assess the reporting of students for the first term this year. The PS also inspected new classrooms constructed by the Ministry of Education. He also toured Thika Road Junior School where urged the students to work hard in school, saying education is the key to their future, adding that the government is committed to implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Four passengers died yesterday in an accident that involved two Public Service Vehicles at Wanjii area, along Murang’a-Kenol road. A matatu belonging to Nakonns Sacco, which was heading towards Murang’a town, plunged into the Maragua River after hitting another matatu belonging to Murang’a Shuttle Sacco during the 6:20am accident. 24 passengers who were onboard the two vehicles sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Murang’a Level 5 hospital for treatment. Some passengers in the Nakonns Sacco matatu claimed the driver was speeding, adding they had earlier cautioned him about his careless driving and speeding.
Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia has instructed all the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) to follow up and ensure all children under their jurisdiction have reported back to school as the school calendar begins this year. The officers were instructed to move from village to village to mop out any child who could have been left behind during this season of school opening.
Lotiatia said any parent whose child will not report back to school as expected will be held culpable and could risk arrest and prosecution in a court of law.
The Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) chairman Enos Njeru yesterday disclosed that the authority had released the December green leave payment amounting to KSh3.2 billion for 131.5 million kilograms. Also disbursed to farmers were dividends amounting to KSh144 million.
