Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga in meeting with European Union election observers

Nyeri County governor Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga yesterday held a consultative meeting with European Union delegation that is in the country to oversee the forthcoming General Election.
Governor Kahiga who is defending his seat on United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket held discussions with Kirsten Müller and Rikardo Marelic, long term observers with the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) who are on a mission to observe the electoral process in the region in line with Kenya’s legal framework as well as with the international and regional standards and commitment Kenya has made regarding democratic elections.
“I informed them of my confidence with the election body in fulfilling its mandate of ensuring the upcoming elections are conducted smoothly. It is my belief that we shall have free, fair and peaceful elections, where Nyeri residents and Kenyans at large shall have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right of voting in the right leaders who will economically propel this country forward,” the governor said after the meeting which took place in his office.
On Saturday, the same team met with Dr Thuo Mathenge who is one of the three candidates seeking to dislodge Mwalimu Kahiga.
The duo met Dr Mathenge at his office along Marua-Kiganjo Road where he assured them of peaceful campaigns as the D-day nears.
The other contenders for the seat are Senator Ephraim Maina Kirinyaga of Jubilee and Economist Peter Maina Munyiri of Chama Cha Kazi.
