Nyeri County governor Mutahi Kahiga yesterday unveiled businessman and Mukurwe-ini constituency politician David Kinaniri Warui to be his running mate.
“Meet Mr. David Kinaniri Waroe, my running mate, a great man who brings in a wealth of expertise to help us finish this transformational journey for Nyeri County that we started in 2017,” the governor said as he unveiled his nominee outside his office in Nyeri town.
He continued, “he joins my winning team, which I have led so far, anchored on the core values of Growth, Transparency and Accountability”.
Warui, 66 is not new in politics as he had in 2017 tried his hand in Mukurwe-ini constituency parliamentary seat as an Independent candidate where he lost to the incumbent Anthony Kiai of Jubilee party.
On his part, Warui said he was optimistic they would win during the August 9th General Election and promised to closely work with the governor for the prosperity of the county.
The appointment seals the fate of the current deputy governor Dr Caroline Wanjiru Karugu in the running of the devolved unit affairs.
Kahiga and Karugu fell out two years ago and the former rarely attends duties that goes with her office.Β Last year, she filed a case accusing the governor and his administration of failing to release her salary and allowances.
