Nyeri women laud Dr Thuo Mathenge for nominating woman as his deputy governor

A section of women leaders from Nyeri County yesterday hailed industrialist cum politician Dr Thuo Mathenge, a gubernatorial aspirant for nominating a woman to deputise him.

The women drawn from different parts of the county vowed to rally behind Dr Mathenge and his nominee Dr Esther Wanjiru Maina.

They said it is only Dr Mathenge who had so far unveiled a woman as a deputy governor something they noted was a sign that he was ready to uplift women and thus should be supported by all.

The women who were speaking at Bantu Resort along Marua-Kiganjo Highway vowed to mobilise voters in the county to support the two.

The two will be vying under the sponsorship of The New Democrats (TND) party which Dr Mathenge is the national chairman.

Dr Maina who joined the women, comprising of scholars and businesswomen thanked Dr Mathenge for nominating her saying she was optimistic they would carry the day during the August 9th General Election.

They also lauded Azimio La Umoja coalition presidential aspirant Raila Odinga for nominating a woman, Martha Karua as his nominee saying it was a clear sign that women were headed for bigger things.
