Othaya Residents Praise Area MP As New Faces Prepare To Contest In 2027
A section of Othaya constituency residents have praised area lawmaker Wambugu Wainaina for commendable work his has carried out since he became MP.

A section of Othaya constituency residents have praised area lawmaker Wambugu Wainaina for commendable work his has carried out since he became MP.
The residents say the MP who is popularly known as MountKenya or Kìrìma is development conscious and always available for them.
“Kìrìma is a unique leader, not only here in Othaya but is not comparable with anyone else. Just tell me where you have heard an MP or any leader using his personal resources to build houses for hundreds of individuals? Where have you heard an MP using his personal money to pay school fees,” said Peter Mwangi, a resident.
Several other residents, though interviewed separately echoed Mwangi’s sentiments with some saying the MP used to assist locals even before he was elected.
Mary Wangari noted that she knew a number of people who had been assisted to go through education or have bills sorted by the MP even before he declared his political interest in the area.
Kariuki Munga went as far as posting in his Facebook page where he heaped praises to the Othaya MP saying he had travelled in many parts in the mountain region and the Othaya MP’s work was most commendable.
He posted, “Despite the politics of the day specifically our people from Murima, sometimes we need to sit back and ask ourselves what has the leaders that we sent to Parliament done this far? I will want to speak objectively and having traversed Mt Kenya region for purposes of data collection,” as he added, “There is one MP from Othaya who have performed exemplary Hon. Wambugu Wainaina. The region since the reign of the former third president of Kenya has lagged behind, up to when he took over power. In Othaya, a region which had a larger number of people living below the poverty index many people now have better houses compared to before. There is a surge in the pupil’s enrollment to primary schools as well as the standards of education in the area which points to equal opportunity for bursary distribution among others.”
Wainaina, Munga further added, appears to have made substantial contributions toward improving the socio-economic landscape of Othaya through targeted initiatives focused on economic development, education enhancement, and infrastructure improvements. He concluded, “his leadership seems to reflect a commitment to addressing the needs of his constituents effectively”.
Several people who includes lawyers Wahome Thuku and Patrick Ngunjiri have declared their interest for the seat, come the next General Elections. Others are Anthony Gitonga with former area MP Gichuki Mugambi widely expected to try to recapture the seat.
