Introduction:
Oybek is a poet, literary scholar, and public figure. He is the national writer of Uzbekistan and an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. Oybek, an artist from a family of skilled tanners, was born.
Main Part:
Oybek, with his extensive knowledge of Uzbek history and Uzbek classical literature, has published numerous articles dedicated to the formation and development of our literature from ancient times to the 1960s in his literary and critical activities. A significant part of these articles focused on the period of Alisher Navoi, the poet’s life and creativity, and later formed Oybek’s collection of articles titled “Navoiy Gulshani” (The Garden of Navoiy). Along with this, Oybek played a leading role in organizing and conducting the 500th anniversary celebration of Navoiy as the Chairman of the Writers’ Union and the Head of the Humanities Department of the Academy of Sciences.
Oybek, with his rich and diverse creativity and his role as a prominent public figure, contributed significantly to the cultural advancement of the Uzbek people. In 1980, a museum dedicated to the writer was established in his former home, and a statue was erected in his honor in one of the parks, streets, or metro stations in Tashkent. After Oybek’s passing, he was awarded the “Order for Great Services.”
“The writer’s life is not measured by years, but by the impact of his creative activity. Oybek did not waste a single moment of his 40-year career that is equal to 400 years. In this regard, Oybek continues to be a mentor for the present and future generations of literature. His works have further enhanced the international reputation of Uzbek literature. His mastery serves as an inspiration for young writers. Oybek’s immortal works have solidified their place in our spiritual treasury and have become a heritage of humanity.
In conclusion, Oybek is not only a talented poet and prose writer, but also a renowned scholar, statesman, public figure, critic, and translator. He has made works such as Pushkin’s “Eugene Onegin,” Lermontov’s “Masquerade,” examples of ancient Roman literature, and the Armenian epic “Sosunli Dovud” accessible through his translations.
