Plans To Modernize Kenya News Agency On Course

By KNA

The Ministry of Information, Communication and Digital Economy is giving priority to revitalisation of Kenya News Agency (KNA) to become the disseminator of the government development agenda.

Speaking in Trans Nzoia County while on a fact-finding mission, Senior Deputy Secretary State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Hezron Nyamberi said there is need for tailored strategies geared towards ensuring that KNA retains its status as a leading government mouthpiece locally and internationally.

“There is no doubt KNA has for a long time been a leading agency when it comes to dissemination of information on government projects not only at the grassroots but also internationally. Due to the demands of the ever-changing competitive world, as a State Department we are called upon to move with speed and ensure that the Agency does not lose its glory. For this reason, we are committed to ensure that our staff are equipped with modern equipment to discharge their duties effectively which they should zealously guard,” he said.

Urging Information Officers to be proactive in dissemination of the government’s development agenda with special focus on Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) pillars, Nyamberi said the government is implementing so many projects across the country which should be properly documented and publicized.

Echoing his words, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi who was present lauded KNA for the exemplary role it has played in dissemination of developmental news.

However, he challenged the Agency to strive to reinvent itself and timely facilitate field staff with the required tools for proper service delivery.

Speaking elsewhere after meeting the Trans Nzoia Government representatives at the county headquarters led by the County Executive Committee Member in Charge of Public Service Management and Governance Julie Ruto, Nyamberi said the department was out to source for close partnerships with devolved units in an effort to enhance dissemination of information pertaining to government programmes and projects on time.

Ruto acknowledged the move and pledged the commitment of Trans Nzoia county government saying there was need to join hands always on matters meant to benefit the public.

Others present during the visit were Deputy Director Human Resource Management State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Fredrick Adeka, Deputy Director, Directorate of Information Patrick Odongo, Trans Nzoia County Director of Communications Dr. Felix Sialo and Chief Officer Governance Sammy Sichangi.
