Police Cast Doubt on Koimburi ‘Abduction’ Video After Scene Fails to Match

The National Police Service has clarified details surrounding the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament, George Koimburi. Addressing the media, Inspector General Douglas Kanja offered fresh insight into what he termed a “complex and evolving situation.”
These remarks are after the circulation of a widely shared video clip that appeared to show the legislator abandoned in a secluded farm within Juja. The video quickly gained traction online, prompting widespread concern and a rapid response from police.
However, according to Kanja, preliminary findings have cast serious doubt on the video’s authenticity.
“Officers dispatched to the alleged location determined that neither the layout of the farm nor the surrounding environment matched the visuals seen in the footage. Moses Kariuki, caretaker of the land owned by businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, told investigators he saw no unusual activity and dismissed claims of any such incident occurring there,” stated Kanja
He further stated that the police traced the MP to Plainview Hospital in Ruiru, where he reportedly sought treatment.
“Authorities confirmed that the vehicle used—registration KCJ 660P belongs to Koimburi and was being driven by Frida Njeri, said to be the first person at the alleged scene. Hospital staff, however, withheld information about the MP’s condition or the treatment he received, complicating efforts to verify the nature or severity of his injuries,” Kanja added.
The Inspector General also noted that forensic experts from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since been deployed to review all evidence, with statements already recorded from five individuals. The police are keen to speak directly with Hon. Koimburi, though attempts to reach him have so far been resisted by his family.
“We will not relent. Every angle is being examined, and no stone will be left unturned,” Kanja emphasized.
Notably, the legislator is also facing an ongoing probe over alleged land fraud, with the Director of Public Prosecutions reportedly approving his arrest prior to last week’s dramatic twist.
“On May 23, police Koimburi evaded arrest by fleeing on a motorcycle alongside his private guards. His mobile phone was turned off soon after. officers intercepted his vehicle with only the driver inside, who was later released after giving a statement,” continued to say the IG.
His sudden reappearance, coinciding with abduction claims, has raised eyebrows, with some speculating the incident may have been staged to divert from legal troubles.
As the case unfolds, the police have appealed to the public for cooperation.
“Anyone with credible information is encouraged to reach out through our toll-free hotlines,” Kanja concluded.
