After waiting for more than a year, finally, President William Ruto’s pledge to some institutions in Nyeri County have been fulfilled.
Othaya Member of Parliament Wambugu Wainaina yesterday confirmed that President Ruto has fulfilled his pledge to support three secondary schools in his constituency with a total of KSh25 million.
This pledge, alongside several others were made on February 15 last year at Gichiche Trading Centre when the president launched Changachicha Irrigation project.
Speaking in the company of several leaders who included then Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, President Ruto reacted to the area MPs request for some of the area schools funding with a promise of giving out KSh10 million each to Chinga Boys and Chinga Girls. He further pledged KSh5 million to Mucharage Secondary School, which is a few kilometres from where was speaking from.
Speaking at Gatugi AIPCA Church yesterday, during a Sunday service presided over by Bishop Muchai of Mukaro South Diocese, the MP announced that the president recently handed him the funds to support the schools.
The MP said he was happy that the president had honoured his request for funding to improve the learning environment in the concerned institutions, emphasizing that the funds will go a long way in enhancing infrastructure and providing better learning conditions for students.
During his tour, the president had also promised that Othaya stadium that is under rehabilitation would be completed, in six month, by August last year, but no work has been done since then.
He had also pledged to see to it that Ruring’u stadium whose construction has stalled for more than 10 years was completed. Unfortunately, no progress has been achieved since then.
It was not clear whether other Institutions such as Nyeri National Polytechnic in Nyeri Town constituency and Ihwagi Secondary school in Mathira constituency which had been promised KSh50 million and KSh7 million respectively had their pledges disbursed to them like those in Othaya Constituency.
