Nairobi, Kenya – President William Samoei Ruto, accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, tay inspected the ongoing Shauri Moyo B Affordable Housing Project in Makadara Constituency, Nairobi County, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing quality and affordable housing for Kenyans. The project, which sits on 16 acres and is designed to deliver 4,066 residential units, is currently 12% complete and is expected to be finalized within 24 months.
At the heart of the government’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) is Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga, whose relentless efforts have been instrumental in driving the housing agenda forward. PS Hinga, who accompanied the President during the inspection, emphasized that the government remains focused on transforming urban housing while ensuring that more Kenyans gain access to dignified and affordable homes.
“This project is a key milestone in our Affordable Housing Programme and a demonstration of the government’s dedication to solving the housing deficit in our country. Through public-private partnerships and structured financing, we are ensuring that these projects are not only completed on time but also remain accessible to ordinary Kenyans,” said PS Hinga.
President Ruto reiterated that the Affordable Housing Programme is a critical pillar of his administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), designed to spur economic growth through job creation, local manufacturing, and expanded infrastructure development.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to addressing the housing challenge while creating employment opportunities. We are deliberately working to ensure more Kenyans access affordable homes while boosting the construction sector,” President Ruto stated.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki echoed the same sentiments, urging both the public and private sector to rally behind the initiative to accelerate its realization.
The Shauri Moyo B Affordable Housing Project is one of the many projects under the broader Affordable Housing Programme, which aims to construct 200,000 housing units annually as part of Kenya’s long-term strategy to provide dignified and accessible housing for all.
CS Alice Wahome, the Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, was also present, reinforcing the government’s commitment to delivering quality housing projects across the country.
PS Charles Hinga, who has been at the forefront of implementing the housing agenda, emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving the ambitious housing targets. He noted that his department is working tirelessly to ensure that urban renewal projects like Shauri Moyo B not only provide housing but also contribute to urban regeneration and economic upliftment.
“We are transforming our cities and towns by ensuring proper planning, quality infrastructure, and housing that meets the needs of every Kenyan. This is a collaborative effort, and we urge more stakeholders to join us in making homeownership a reality for many,” PS Hinga added.
The government remains committed to fostering partnerships with the private sector, local authorities, and financial institutions to ensure the successful implementation of housing projects nationwide.
With PS Charles Hinga’s leadership and the unwavering support of President Ruto’s administration, Kenya is steadily moving towards bridging the housing deficit and providing modern, affordable, and sustainable housing solutions for all citizens.
