Kirinyaga County based Soccer referees yesterday graduated after undertaking FIFA accredited courses.
The 100 referees were sponsored by Interior Principal Secretary Dr Karanja Kibicho.
Of the hundred, 35 undertook Class II certification course while 65 took Class III certification course.
The referees have been officiating tournaments within the county.
Following the training, they will now be qualified to officiate FKF matches countrywide, hence boosting their income.
Class II referees will now officiate upto division 1 matches earning upto Sh6000 per game. Class III referees will officiate Regional upto Division 2 matches earning upto Sh4500 per match, up from Sh500 they were earning before the training.
“Local football will improve since all referee are fully trained,” said Dr Kibicho.
The trained referee will train team players in their county on soccer rules.
“This will improve the knowledge levels of our players at all levels,” he said, “Who knows, Kirinyaga will have one of our own officiating World Cup in coming years”, he lamented.
