Rise Of Technology In The World Of Football

By: Cornelius Nasong’o

As compared to the past centuries, the 21st century has experienced gradual change in technology like  the use of High definition cameras,v ideo assistant referees and also digital formats for ticketing among others.

High definition cameras nowdays are all over in the field when a football match is ongoing, this digital strategy has fueled in a result of quality pictures and  videos, also ,one football match can be covered by more than ten cameras thus enhancing job opportunities to camera operators and the media crew.

Technology also has aided referees by coming up with the V.A.R machine which helps to see what the centre referee cannot be able to capture in terms of offsides,  redcards , penalties and other fouls committed in the field of play.

Despite the fact that the V.A.R has stepped out and corrected some decisions, there are also increased errors from it….like for the past two weeks, Fortuna Sittard a team playing in Netherland fielded 12 players, the thing that the centre referee was not able to notice.

Secondly, the machine has also brought delay in matches for taking alot of time to review and check a course of an action.

On the other hand, the same technology has made it easier for ticketing the fans who want to attend and cheer their teams by coming up with online ticket hubs, this has curbed long quest among many countries.
