Kiambu Towndhip Sub-County residents have called upon the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) while undertaking their road projects to consider putting up pathways and drainage.
The residents, speaking during the public participation organised by KURA for the construction of 4.6 kilometers kasarini PCEA thindigua to windsor road in Thindigua PCEA church hall attended by area Member of Parliament Machua Waithaka, Francis Koina area MCA, chief and security agencies in the area said that the first phase construction of Thindigua windsor road no pathway was put and drainage terming the road which cost Sh 38 million as poorly done.
“Since 1976 when Thindigua, Kasarini was sub-divided it is the first time we have gotten a tarmac road. We are glad that development is being brought to our area. We are asking the contractor this time to remember to put pathways on the road and also drainage to avoid the road from getting damaged fast by water and also for us to get a path to be walking by without being in conflict with motorists,” Kimani Kamau a resident said.
Rose Wanjiru said that death has occured on the road which has no pathway and school going children are at risk.

Machua said that the construction of the road will open up the area which has gained a lot of population and has public amenities such as schools, church, police station and other public outlets.

Machua said that residents used to suffer especially during the rainy season where he called on KURA to ensure that the road has proper drainage and be marked accordingly.
He said that the subcounty has several other roads that are under construction and rehabilitation such as Kaiyaba -Kiratina road, Aramati road in Kiamumbi, Wakaruri Starehe – Wagachoka Factory Lane Road in Thindigua, Gituamba kagongo mbiu road in Tinganga ward, Riabai coffee factory-Kihingo-Ha Bedan Road. Gichocho, Ruthiruini road among others.
“We are on the ground ensuring that our roads are passable and our people are able to move from one point to another with ease . We have also constructed several police posts, we have done drainanages in most of our roads and we have enrolled our youths on short courses and given out bursaries to everybody who has applied,” he said.
He, however said that under his oversight role the national government under the economic stimulus program is constructing a modern market in Ting’ang’a ward.
“This market will be a decent place for traders and will protect traders and their produce from heavy rains and sun. Upon completion, the market will be handed over to the County Government for management. It will have a ground floor and a first floor which will consist of a social hall (for meetings), an ICT hub for training youth on digital skills, an ablution block and a decent nursing room for our lactating mothers,” he said.
The MCA said that Thindigua has three bridges that need urgent attention as they are impassable and pose a risk to residents especially during the rainy season.
He called on the contractor to ensure that when the construction commences to grant residents jobs, ensure that water is poured to avoid alot of dust since the area has many residential and commercial buildings and to ensure they give way to homesteads for easier passage.
