Mbeere North Member of Parliament G.K Ruku has championed climate smart Agriculture. in his own words, he said;
“Our first season of implementing climate-smart agriculture is finally paying off as today we have launched the buying of Gadam Sorghum across Mbeere North and flagged off a lorry full of the drought-resistant sorghum variety harvests to EABL.
Sorghum farming in Mbeere North is in partnership with the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), a constituent company of the EABL.
We’re encouraging farmers across the Constituency to adopt climate-smart agriculture, especially farming of drought-resistant crops to increase harvests despite climate change effects.
At the end of the buying exercise we’re going to evaluate the size of harvests and the total value of sales of all the Gadam Sorghum from the entire Constituency to determine the benefits our farmers reaped from the sorghum farming program under Fair Climate Network — Mbeere.
Registration of sorghum farmers for the upcoming season will start next week and we expect more farmers to enroll than the ending season.
“We’re Building a Better Society Together.”
