- For Dr Ruto, he would capitalize on this to position himself as a man who carries the vision and dreams of all Kenyans.
- Being a son of a peasant, he would coin the slogan of a ‘Hustler Nation’ and unveil a ‘wheel-barrow’ as a symbol of this movement.
- This is the wave that would eventually catapult him to the seat of President.
- Initially, there was one hurdle standing on his way.
- Being the Deputy President, a good number of Kenyans reasoned that there is no way he could run away from the ills associated with President Kenyatta.
- Convincingly, Dr Ruto would counter this by stating. I’m sure you understand my constitutional duty is that of being a Principal Assistant to the President.
In the run-up to 2022 General Election, the writing was already on the wall that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s preferred candidate Raila Odinga, the flag bearer of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition Party, stood a little chance of winning the elections.
The bitterness and growing anger of the majority of Kenyans was informed by two main reasons.
The high cost of living that leading to a sharp rise of prices of essential commodities.
Secondly, they abhorred the President’s language. He has been employing the tricks of threats, intimidation and blackmail.
We have the votes and he cannot force us to vote is project, this swift rejoinder would mainly come from members of his Kikuyu community.
Raila and himself hailed from the dynastic families and so the pair was bred by butter and bread. They do not what poverty look like.
None of them has ever slept hungry and that is why the other day you heard one of them saying he does know the price of bread.
The two and their families own massive properties in this country.
So, this is main reason why Uhuru want Raila. He wanted him to protect their wealth.

In the first term, I performed by job very well but in the second term the president opted to assign my work to somebody else.
Here, he was referring to the cabinet minister Fred Matiangi whose role had been enhanced.
The changes came hot on the heels of the ‘Handshake’ between the then- President and Raila Odinga.
At this juncture, allow me to give Dr Ruto my unsolicited advice.
You are now the President of Kenya and this means all the eyes are trained on you.
Kenyans expect you to deliver on the promises you made during the campaign.
If you fail, they will not blame your deputy or other state officials. The buck stops with you.
I hope the men and women you have appointed to help you run the government will not fail you.
My wish is to see you riding on the same popularity that brought you to power and hence winning 2027 polls with ease.
