Satellite Modems To Be Deployed In 1,111 Polling Centres Outside 3G Spectrum

As the August 9 general elections draw near the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has resulted to deploying satellite modems to facilitate the electronic transmission of poll results in areas outside the national 3G spectrum.
IEBC had proposed to the National Assembly to revise regulations that would have allowed polling officials to relay copies of scanned election results forms from the Constituency Tallying Centre by the law makers rejected the proposal.
This was disclosed by the commission’s CEO Marjan Hussein who was speaking during the simulation of the Result Transmission System (RTS) at Bomas of Kenya.
Hussein said they will work with the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) to ensure that all centers are equipped and systems are set to work effectively. He further added images of result forms for Presidential results will be transmitted immediately after counting, tallying, and announcement of the results at the Constituency Tallying Centre and National Tallying Centre.
Hussein assured the country that the system will be secure and data integrity has been ensured. KIEMS kits will have at least two power bank back-up.
