Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia yesterday presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrade of the Engineer Hospital in Kinangop Sub County.
The Governor accompanied by his Deputy, Cecilia Mbuthia symbolically broke ground to mark the start of the journey of upgrading the hospital to level 5 status. The modern hospital that will be constructed at a cost of Sh550 million is funded jointly by the National and County Government.
The project that will partly be undertaken by the military will involve the construction of a three-storey male and female medical and surgical wards, 148 bed capacity wards and completion and Equipping of a modern Kitchen.
In his remarks, the governor said the hospital was part of his government’s commitment to provision of quality and healthcare.
The top-tier facility will be the second largest Hospital in the county after JM Kariuki Referral Hospital, where a 500 bed capacity wing is under construction.
Good healthcare has been a priority in Governor Kimemia’s agenda ,and since 2017, the County Government has established 20 new dispensaries across the County.
The county government is in the process of upgrading Ndaragwa, Ngano, Mirangine, Manunga, Njabini and Bamboo Health Centres to level 4 statuses.
Also present were County Executive Committee Members Dr John Mungai (Health Services), Mr Stephen Njoroge (Finance and Economic Development), Ann Mary Gathigia (Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services), acting County Secretary Mr. Muigai Wainaina, Chief Officer for Health Ms. Sarah Ndegwa and the Chief of Staff Mr. Charles Wachira.
