- Briefly who are you? How did you become a force to reckon with in literature?
Sudden Dambuza is a simple guy who is loved by God and is into writing inspirational books. He is a natural, who also loves nature and everything natural. I started writing my first book, titled The Journey in 2012, and then only got to publish my first published book called Your Psalm 23 in 2018. In that same year (2018), I also published my 2nd book, titled How To Pray and then launched my 3rd book, titled Spiritual States of the Church. By God’s enabling Grace, I also launched my 4th book called ROAD MAPS and successfully published my 5th book titled THE REVOLUTION in 2020. Later on, around November 2020 I released my 6th book titled STORM NAVIGATION, which I successfully launched together with my 7th book titled How To NAVIGATE Through RELATIONSHIPS in May 2021.
- What inspired you to write?
I have been primarily inspired by God’s Word and also my own personal revelatory experiences in my walk with God. I also do get inspiration from Christian music, of which I listen to almost every genre of the Christian songs.
- Do books yield income?
Yes they do, but not as much as expected. The fact that you are building a name or a brand, you have to sell yourself to people before they can buy any of your books. For the books to sell, it’s because the Author is making them sell (putting in extra-effort).
- Literacy in Africa, do people read in general?
Generally the reading culture is still to be cultivated in Africa. I mean, some people are not even motivated to read a poster. You send them a poster and may have to explain to them verbally, what is written on it.
- What can one do to increase sales in Africa?
One has to build a name or brand. According to my own experiences, people that normally buy books are the ones who know me. So one has to sell himself to people, before people can buy his product, in this context, his or her books. So one has to value creating meaningful relationships through networking with other Authors, Publishers and Book Clubs. Book Launches are also one way of increasing sales, and book tours can follow after the book launch. Social media marketing, even to the extent of texting people in their inboxes, because some posts somehow “jump” them, since there is just a lot going on, on social media.
- Do you feel fulfilled when people buy your books?
I definitely have a sense of fulfillment when people buy my books, and not only that, but when they read and give me feedback. It’s beyond words when the feedback is positive or we get to interact in line with what is written in the book.
- Can you encourage upcoming authors to write? Do you see a future for authors?
Upcoming Authors should definitely write and get their stories out. Because writing a book immortalizes an individual in the sense that, even when the Author dies, he does not become a distant memory because some people will still be reading his or her book.
- Any movement and toast masters or local government how did they help in promoting your work?
Unfortunately, I haven’t received any kind of support from any government
- Do you have any endorsements? What’s the importance of networking in the book world?
Networking opens the mind of the Author in terms of amplifying and fine-tuning his or her voice in his or her own writings. This is because you get to meet other Authors, who show you the whole writing process from a different angle.
- E-books vs hard copies, do you think technology has come to kill the traditional hard copies or e-books are simply a continuation of the reading culture?
I believe they somehow complement one another and they cater for people who have different preferences. So with the advancement in technology, the e-books are coming in to maintain the reading culture in the modern-day society.
- Your parting short!
To aspiring Authors, now is the time to start writing! To renown Authors, keep on writing! To the readers, keep on supporting African Author’s in whatever way possible!
