Tharaka Nithi County Starts Implementation Of FLLoCA Investments

The County Climate Change Unit (CCU), led by Chief Officers, Mr Peterson Kathenya of Environment, Mining, and Natural Resources and Ms Loise Mutua of Water and Irrigation has commenced the implementation of the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) County Climate Resilience Investments (CCRI), in a significant step towards enhancing the county’s resilience to climate change.
Yesterday, the CCU team conducted a site handover exercise for the first four investments approved by the project implementation unit.
The sites handed over for development are the Naikara Sand Dam, Kerara Sand Dam, Gatonto Gravity Dam, and Muthambi Gitije Irrigation Project.
The projects are strategically designed to strengthen the community’s ability to withstand and adapt to the adverse effects of climate change by improving water storage and irrigation facilities.
Mr Kathenya emphasized the importance of these projects, stating, ” we aim to bolster the capacity of local communities through these projects to cope with climate hazards, ensuring sustainable water resources and enhancing agricultural productivity.
The implementation of FLLoCA investments is crucial for building a resilient community capable of managing climate risks.
“Our focus is on sustainable solutions that will provide long-term benefits to the residents of Tharaka Nithi County,” said Kathenya.
Ms Mutua added, “These projects are not just about infrastructure; they are about empowering our communities with the necessary tools and resources to thrive in the face of climate challenges.
We are committed to delivering impactful projects that will make a real difference in the lives of our people.”
The County Climate Change Unit is dedicated to continuous engagement with the community throughout the implementation process to ensure that the projects meet their needs and expectations.
