This year’s World Water Day was held in Elgeyo Marakwet county under the theme: Leveraging Water For Peace. The Cabinet Secretary Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Zacharia Njeru led Ministry officials and water sector institutions in marking the colourful ceremony. The Principal Secretary State Department for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir, Governor Elgeyo Marakwet Wisley Rotich and the patron SMACHS Foundation (Smart Mechanized Agriculture & Climate Action for Humanity and Sustainability), the First daughter Charlene Ruto.
The delegation first paid a courtesy call to the Governor’s office in Iten and proceeded to Mindililwo Special School. The CS provided the school with assorted food stuffs for the needy students as donation of two tanks of 10,000 litres. H. E. Governor Wisley Rotich promised to purchase an ironing machine to assist the students in the school.
Later the delegation went to Illula Albino Centre where the CS provided assorted food stuffs to the physically challenged students. SMACHS FOUNDATION patron Sharlene promised to sponsor one student who has completed fourth form and is interested in doing Sign Language.
The Two Rivers Dam in the region that requires rehabilitation and expansion was not left out as the CS pledged to revive it as soon as possible.
The Ministry’s top leadership accompanying the CS included the Water Secretary Eng SAO Alima, Secretary Administration Mr Stephen Kihara among other technical teams.
