Kenya is the fourth largest exporter of macadamia in the world and the second largest in Africa.
More than 200,000 smallholder farmers spread across 20 counties and the 40 processing plants offering 30,000 jobs mainly in rural areas are at the centre of government support programs to ensure greater incomes from this crucial value chain.
Yesterday, Deputy President Professor Kithure Kindiki who officially opened the conference said the government is making deliberate interventions to reduce the cost of macadamia production, promote value addition and that the ongoing construction of the Embu County Aggregation and Industrial Park will go a long way in taking macadamia farming to the next level.
Th three day event, taking place at The Embu University Grounds has attracted diverse stakeholders who includes; farmers, processors, financiers, industry regulators and political leaders.
