This is the Oak,
That defines our Africanness.
Upon her back we were strapped,
And her words were a bulwark
Upon which we were deep-rooted.
She is the black woman,
Whose navel is sacred,
And her womb the soil of greatness!
She is the contour feather
That delimitates the black melanin
Whose warmth cuddled all tribes
From the leopard’s claws
Her strength was this aegis
That barricaded the enemy
From suckling her virtuous breasts
That her children feast without crave,
And she is the black woman
That defines our Africanness!
