United Youth for Peace and Human Rights (UYPHR) has announced the appointment of Samuel Wambugu Githaiga as its Regional Coordinator, effective 25 July 2026. Githaiga will be based in Mogadishu, Somalia, as the organisation deepens its work across the region.
Confirming the appointment, UYPHR described it as recognition of “outstanding dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence,” and said it looked forward to Githaiga’s contribution in the role.
Responding to the announcement, Githaiga said he was honoured to take on the responsibility. “I am pleased and humbled to accept this appointment,” he said. “I look forward to giving my best for the good of UYPHR, for Africa, and for our global community, particularly Kenya. Peace and stability remain essential to sustainable development, even as our region continues to grapple with the challenge of youth unemployment. Investing in human rights, the rule of law, and the wisdom of young people gives us confidence in a prosperous future.” He closed with a call for unity among the organisation’s members, echoing what he described as a rallying call from Kenya’s Mau Mau Governing Council: “United we stand.”
UYPHR describes itself as a youth-focused organisation working on peace-building and human rights advocacy, with a presence linked to Nairobi and, with this appointment, an expanding coordination role in Somalia. The organisation can be reached at uyphr05@gmail.com, by telephone on +252 619 508 580, or via www.uyphr.org.
Githaiga’s appointment comes as youth-led civic and human rights organisations across East Africa and the Horn increasingly position themselves around cross-border coordination, particularly on issues of unemployment, governance, and regional stability.
