Javits Frimpong
Javits Frimpong, 15, was killed steps from his classroom β and the questions his death raises about school safety, bullying and gun violence demand urgent answers.

Every morning, millions of families send their children to school with the quiet expectation they will return. For Thomas Frimpong, that expectation died on a Bronx pavement on 29 October 2026.
Javits Frimpong, a 15-year-old student at Dreamyard Preparatory School, was chased down and shot near East 171st Street and Crotona Park at approximately 9:30am. He had moved from Ghana to the United States just a year earlier, carrying dreams of becoming a physician. Those dreams ended before the school day began.
The circumstances surrounding his death are as troubling as the killing itself. Javits had reportedly endured sustained bullying at school. His father, Thomas, had been contacted by the principal days earlier to confirm that two students had been suspended for harassing his son. Yet when Thomas checked in on him, Javits reassured him: “Dad, I’m okay.” He carried the weight quietly, the way too many children do.
Police are hunting three teenage suspects, believed to be aged between 16 and 18, seen on surveillance footage fleeing in dark clothing and blue surgical masks. The investigation continues. The grief does not wait.
Friends describe Javits as shy, gentle and quick to make others smile β a boy who stayed out of trouble and stayed indoors playing games on his phone. His school record was clean. His future was planned.
Suspension protects a child inside a school building. It offers nothing on the walk home. If a society cannot guarantee that a 15-year-old reaches his classroom safely, it has failed him long before the bullets did.
