Nyeri County governor Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga has called on farmers to embrace new agricultural technologies so as to reap maximum benefits.
“To promote agriculture in Nyeri County, we must invest in modern farming techniques and incentivize farmers by equipping them and providing the requisite support needed,” the governor noted.
By embracing technology and innovation, the governor observed, farmers can easily increase productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, and bolster this sector.
Kahiga spoke on Friday at Wambugu Agricultural Training Centre near Nyeri town during the first day of farmers training.
The county has been organising the two day training that attracts farmers and other stakeholders from different parts of the country.
This year’s theme was, “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture And Trade Intiatives For Sustainable Economic Growth,”.
The event, organised through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Aquaculture Development saw over 250 exhibitors, agricultural experts, and stakeholders visit the centre to learn and explore different farming practices and methods.
The exhibitors showcased different farming products including fertilizers, seedlings, and pesticides of superior quality to improve food production and improve the quality and quantity of crops.
The governor further observed the importance of farmers and stakeholders to embrace climate-smart agriculture to help combat harmful farming practices.
He was accompanied by among others,hisย deputy governor David Kinaniri and CECM for Agriculture James Wachihi.
