Education elites have warned that the country is facing congestion disaster especially in secondary schools every year due to the government’s failure to expand its infrastructure.
Education sector is a major system that should not be ignored as it has proven it’s salinity through the successful produce over years. With more than 1500 learners in some boarding schools, concerns about security, health, safety management and discipline among students have been raised.
With the introduction of CBC curriculum, many students are bound to join secondary schools prompting the government to improve its infrastructure especially in the education sector by building more schools, dealing with security and foreseeing the health management and hygiene in schools.
The ministry of Education has the task to address infrastructure and congestion issues in secondary schools which are blamed for poor performances in schools especially in national examinations over years.
This is due to limited academic institutions where there is inadequate space and infrastructure with fewer biology, physics and chemistry laboratories leading to failure in national exams especially in science subjects.
Acute shortage of teachers in both secondary and primary schools is also a major challenge and a great contributor to student’s poor performances. According to Regional Education Learning Initiative (RELI), there’s a shortage of teachers in schools and to them , students performances is influenced by psychological, environmental and socioeconomic factors and therefore regions that consistently tend to underperform ought to be traced to identify the reasons of poor performances and advices to implement correct measures.
Increase in enrollment of students has increased the burden on teachers and many schools have been understaffed therefore propelling schools to massive failure in the national examinations.
That said, the government should look into improving infrastructure in education institutions especially in secondary schools to avoid congestion thus helping improve schools performances.
