Kelvin Kipkoech well known as Salim is a young and talented book writer who hails from Kipsomor village, Chebangang location within Kimulot ward of Konoin constituency in Bomet county,South rift valley region.A beloved son of Mr and Mrs Rutto, parents who roofs their children in a small piece of land and without a formal job, only survives on hand to mouth routine.
Kipkoech, just like any other children attended one of the primary schools within Kimulot ward and pass his KCPE with flying colours, the marks that allowed him to secure a place at Boito boys within Konoin constituency where he perfected his writing skills that made him to win alot of prices within school and outside the school’s gate. While in form two, when he was exactly at 15 he wrote his first book THE DIM STAR.
His first book, despite being embraced by his school mates and teachers made him to go through hell under the hands of angry tigers who took advantage of him.As he was running helter skelter to find means of publishing his first novel, he found a CEO (name withheld) who offered to publish his book with some agreed amount.Kipkoech quickly ran to his parents who are already ‘down’ pocket wise and presented his case to them.
Just as Waswahili Says, Ng’ombe akivunjika kuu malishoni hujikokota zizini, that is exactly what the author did.His father was unable to utter a word but remained staring at his son wondering what to do so as to help him achieve his goals of becoming a renown journalist. After looking at his son for a while, tears rolled down his cheeks,he rose up from where he was seating and headed outside, the mother too broke into tears , followed her beloved husband to the outside and they both looked at the mountain, wondering whether God has forgotten them.It is at that moment where the mother gave out her phone to the young and optimistic author so as to put on sale, the move which Kipkoech welcomed though in a hesitant manner.
After two days, Kipkoech went to his potential publisher who had offered to publish his work not knowing that, the said CEO was a wolf under sheep skin. The potential CEO took the money gotten from the sale of the only phone of the poor mother and disappeared into thin air, till today, Kipkoech has never set his eyes on the inhuman person. When Kipkoech returned home and delivered a bad new to the parents, the house became the wailing house till the following day.
Despite the challenges that Kipkoech had gone through in his Journey towards becoming a renowned journalist, through the help of well wishers and his kindhearted parents he has been abled to publish his first novel, second and the third.
