Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has urged boda boda riders not to be manipulated by certain politicians for their own personal gain.
This comes after the death of 28-year-old rider Justine Momanyi, who was allegedly injured during clashes between rival factions of boda boda riders in Kisii.
During the burial of Justine Momanyi in Emenwa village, Nyamache sub-county, Governor Arati strongly condemned the attack and the killing of riders by politicians.
He stated that some individuals exploit boda boda riders to settle personal scores.
“I besiege you riders, do not be misused by some selfish individuals,”he said.
Governor Arati called on security officers to be vigilant and apprehend the politicians involved in such behavior, ensuring that they are brought to justice.
He accused some security officers of protecting those who break the law.
Arati alleged that certain local politicians fund individuals who masquerade as boda boda riders and incite chaos.
He claimed that some of these riders have multiple warrants for their arrest but are shielded by corrupt officers.
The governor appealed to boda boda riders to embrace peace and avoid getting involved in acts of violence.
He requested Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki to investigate criminals pretending to be boda boda riders and receiving protection from the police.
